Rep. Melanie Stambaugh appointed to the House Transportation Committee

Rep. Melanie Stambaugh, R-Puyallup, has been appointed to the House Transportation Committee by House Speaker Frank Chopp.

Stambaugh was a vocal proponent of transportation reform during the 2015 legislative session, pushing to secure funding for the completion of Highway 167. Funding was secured in the $16 billion transportation package the Legislature passed in June. She also introduced House Bill 1939 to modify the definition of WSDOT's policy goals to include congestion relief and improved freight mobility. The companion bill to HB 1939 was signed by the governor in July.

"The Legislature made significant progress on a variety of transportation needs during the 2015 legislative session," said Stambaugh. "However, there is much more to be done to further improve infrastructure, mobility and accountability within our transportation system. I look forward to working on behalf of my district and our state as a member of the House Transportation Committee, developing solutions that benefit our businesses, families, and communities."

The 25-member committee considers the transportation budget, revenue sources for transportation funding, and issues relating to transportation policy and agencies, including WSDOT and the Washington State Patrol.

In addition to serving on the House Transportation Committee, Stambaugh also currently serves on the House Education, Higher Education, and Rules committees. The 60-day 2016 legislative session begins Jan. 11, 2016.
