Rep. Brandon Vick proposed amendment to address CRC bridge height issue20130424_LEGWA_1789sh

Today, Rep. Brandon Vick, R-Felida, offered an amendment to the latest transportation revenue funding bill, House Bill 1955. The  amendment would require the Columbia River Crossing (CRC) bridge design to include a height that accommodates all commercial river users. Vick’s amendment would have postponed funding the CRC until the height qualification was met.

“Time has shown machinery and modes of transportation continue to increase in size. Not only is it important that we deal with our current economic realities but we must consider those who will inherit our decisions,” said Vick, R-Felida. “The voters have entrusted us with appropriately planning for future generations. Without this amendment we will hamstring the ability of our children to reap the economic rewards from the Columbia River.”

The amendment failed to pass along with four other amendments which addressed the CRC transportation plans. Passage of House Bill 1955 is part of a bigger group of bills being considered in negotiations to pass an operating budget. Special sessions can only last up to 30 days. The second special session must end on July 11, 2013.
